Visit Ancient Rome: you’ll see the Colosseum (inside), Roman Forum (all temples, basilicas, triumphal arches), and Palatine Hill. It’s a great introduction to ancient Rome for visitors who require the company of an expert, private tour guide when time is short.
You will be shown around the inside of the Colosseum, see the base of the Colossus of Nero, and the Arch of Constantine. From there you’ll walk up ancient Via Sacra into the Roman Forum, wherein you will learn how and why myths and legends were to become such powerful political tools in ancient Rome. Your guide will explain the history of all the ruins and remains, including Lapis Niger (dating back to c. 750 BC), the Comitium, House of the Vestals, Column of Phocas, and Tarpeian Rock. You will ascend the legendary Palatine Hill from the Roman Forum, where it is believed that the Lupercal (where Romulus and Remus were found) is still concealed. On the Palatinum you’ll see the House of Livia, look down on Nero’s revolving dining room, and stroll through 17th century gardens and aviaries above the Flavian Palace and Domitian’s Greek Circus. This extra walk over the Palatine Hill lends the tour a degree of exclusivity.
For security reasons, backpacks, rucksacks, large handbags, luggage etc. are banned inside the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill.
