In fact, we’ve never seen more than a smattering of tourists in any of the churches we visit (San Pietro in Vincoli apart, due to it’s proximity to the Colosseum) on this new and must-do Rome tour!
Rome Churches So you’ve seen the Colosseum, you’ve skipped the Vatican line and stared up at the Sistine Chapel ceiling, you’ve strolled across Piazza Navona and stumbled through the Roman Forum. What next?
The tour is ideal for pilgrim groups and families, it covers much of ancient Rome without having to navigate through large numbers of other people. Hidden Churches of Rome is really a tour for those in the know, led by a fully licensed, local Rome tour guide who will impart little known details, gems, and nuggets about Roman history which are never revealed outside high end private tours.
You will visit seven ancient and beautiful churches between the Roman Forum and Arco di Dolabella, where Hidden Churches of Rome draws to a close. Each church has a rich and fascinating history. Some date as far back as the late imperial age and boast bronze age foundations, while others have helped us understand a great deal about medieval Rome.
On this tour, you will walk around three of Rome’s oldest parks, namely Parco del Colle Oppio (Oppian Hill in antiquity, site of Emperor Nero’s Domus Aurea and Emperor Trajan’s Baths), Parco del Celio (Caelian Hill in antiquity), and Villa Celimontana. You will also pass by the entire circumference of the Colosseum with views of the Flavian amphitheatre from every angle.
When a church listed in our itinerary is closed due to acts of God, religious holidays and / or festivals, other factors beyond our control etc. (closures, however rare, can happen at any time without advance warning), more time will be spent in the next church on the way.
"Hidden Churches of Rome" operates with a minimum of four (4) pax. If less than a total of four (4) people have booked on any given day, we reserve the exclusive right to cancel and issue a full refund to clients prior to the date of the tour.
