Despite its small size it has all: history, traditions, art and one of the best Italian cuisine. Modena is an Historic university town and Its streets and buildings give you the opportunity to relive the medieval town still filled by the echoes of the court of the Este family, who transformed the city into the capital of their Duchy in 1598. Modena is home to one of the most important Italian Romanesuqe Cathedral. The Cathedral, its Tower and Piazza Grande are now Unesco World Heritage monuments. In the area of Modena you can also discover some of the masterpieces of Italian gastronomy: TRADITIONAL BALSAMIC VINEGAR and PARMESAN CHEESE. All products are protected and controlled by their own consortium and this means that these products can only be made in a particular area of Italy.

Tour Highlights:
The walking tour starts from the most important monuments in Modena: Piazza Grande, Saint Geminiano Cathedral (it is possible to visit the interior according to the opening times and services) and the Ghirlandina tower. The visit continues with the monuments and old streets near the Piazza Grande, like the Via Emilia, the main urban artery since the Roman age. The tour ends in Piazza Roma with the Ducal Palace (visit only outside) of the family Este, presently seat of a Military Academy. During the tour there is also the possibility to visit the oldest Delicatessen in Europe. The "salumeria Giusti" was founded in 1605. During this full day tour you will also VISIT where the famous Parmesan Cheese and the Traditional Balsamic vinegar are produced.

The two food visits foresee a tasting to be paid by tourists on spot at the total cost of about € 20 / 30 (it depends on the factories).

Parmesan cheese is ONLY PRODUCED IN THE MORNING starting from 7,30 - 8,00 am up to 9 - 9,30 am (producing times depend on factories) in case you can’t be there at starting times don’t worry it is possible to visit the cheese factory, without people at work, late in the morning or in the afternoon too,

PAY ATTENTION:

Visits at the factories must be RESERVED IN ADVANCE.

VISITS ON WEEKDAYS ONLY as the factories usually are closed on week-ends and on National Holidays

- Tasting fees: The tasting costs depend on where you are in Modena area and which factories you want to visit as in some factories tasting can be free of charge or not expensive while in some other these visits can be more expensive: Average total tasting costs from € 15 up to € 30 per person.
- A CAR IS NEEDED as Balsamic vinegar and Parmasan cheese factories are not in the city centre but located in the countryside
